The harbour town ofCobh came alive this past weekend as thousands gathered for the Cobh People’s Regatta2025, which ran from Friday, 15 August to Sunday, 17 August. The annual festival once again delivered its trademark mix of sailing tradition, family entertainment, and vibrant community spirit.
Sailing on Cork Harbour
The highlight on the water was the dinghy and cruiser racing, which saw crews from across Cork and further afield competing in lively conditions on the harbour. Crowds lined the waterfront to watch sails dart across the bay, with the racing showcasing both seasoned sailors and rising talent from local clubs.
Entertainment on Shore
Away from the water, the town buzzed with live music, street entertainment, and family-focused events. The much-loved duck race returned, drawing cheers from children and adults alike as hundreds of brightly coloured ducks bobbed their way through the harbour currents.
Other favourites included the kids’ talent show, fancy dress competitions, and the traditional crab fishing, which kept families entertained along the quayside. Local market stalls added colour to the streets, offering everything from handmade crafts to local bites.
Fireworks Finale
The festival ended with a spectacular fireworks display over Cork Harbour on Sunday night. The explosions of colour lit up the town and provided a fitting close to a weekend that blended maritime heritage with modern community celebration.
A Tradition That Endures
The regatta, often described as one of Europe’s oldest, once again showed why it holds such a special place in the Cobh calendar. The blend of competitive sailing and free family activities ensured something for everyone, while the atmosphere along the waterfront reminded locals and visitors alike of the town’s unique maritime identity.
